ThinApp: Firefox 17ESR w/Flash plug in

All,

I'm running into some trouble when ThinApp'ing(4.7.3)  FireFox17Esr with flash player plug-in (v11.7) (aquired by going to Youtube, installing using the Firefox plug-in prompt). Full Write Isolation selection and .dat entry point.

BnC system: Fresh install of Win7x86 Enterprise. Win 7 security updates, no .NET installs or VMtools.

Flash video works fine between the pre-scan/post-scan step. When using the ThinApp Firefox the flash video frame loads black window and does not contitunue further. The Flash player 'loading pin wheel' show with no movement when hovering over the flash frame.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

SQL Server 2005 Tools Thinapp issue

$

Hi,

I'm trying to create a ThinApp package for SQL Server 2005 Tools (It will be a prerequesites package for other applications). I'm actually only selecting the following option. So there is no real db etc being installed just the native tools etc.

Capture.PNG

I can create the package without a problem(I stop the DotNet and WMI services before capture) however when I run the SQL Configuration Manager I get the following error. "Cannot connect to WMI provider. You do not have permission or the the server is unreachable. Note that you can only manage SQL Server 2005 servers with SQL Server Configuration Manager. Invalid namespace [0x8004100e]"

I have read on a few post etc that the way to get around this is to run the virtual CMD  "mofcomp sqlmgmprovider.mof". I have done this but now when I click on the SQL Configuration Manager icon I get a slightly different message.

Capture.PNG

I'm not too sure why it is giving me a access denied msg. has anyone else run into this problem and solved it?

Also has anyone managed to automate the earlier fix so that when you start Configuration manager you don't have to start a virtual CMD and run "mofcomp sqlmgmprovider.mof"

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Microsoft Access 2010 woes...

$

0

3 days... That I've been trying to get this going. I hope someone can help.

I have gone thru about 12 blogs, KBs, step-by-step recipes and I can't get this package to work...

Build VM: XP SP3, latest hotfixes installed, ThinApp 4.7.3-891762

Destination: Windows 7 SP1, latest hotfixes, 64 bits.

My issue is licensing related, which is adressed by about all the blogs I've found but I can't get it to work. I always receive this message: "Microsoft Office cannot verify the  license for this application. A repair attempt failed or was canceled by  the user. The Application will now shut down."

I have a thick install of Office 2010 on the target workstations. From what I read it's an issue that was resolved with the latest version of ThinApp, which I'm running.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have a case opened with VMware and so far, they pointed me to the KBs I already had read...

My installation recipe:

1. Copy the Access 2010 installation sources to the Build VM.

2. Disable network

3. Run pre-scan

4. Take snapshot

5. Install Access to C:\Office (I created an MSP, but I also tried with a manual install with same result).

6. Open Access 2010, disable Update Checking, verify that it is NOT activated, press F1 to run the help menu, then close.

7. Usually I enable the network here, run a windows update to get the latest updates for Access, then disable the network. After verification it is still not activated. I also tried without doing this step, same result.

8. Run postscan

9. Delete the %History%, %Cookies%, %Internet Cache%, %Fonts% folders (tried without this step as well)

10. Copy the captured files to my network share then start editing the configs.

One step mentions to copy the folder OfficeSoftwareProtectionPlatform from
%Drive_C%\Documents and Settings\All Users\Microsoft
to
%Drive_C%\ProgramData

which I have tried (ProgramData doesn't exist, I have to create it).

PACKAGE.INI

1. Enable MSIstreaming (1)

2. Set VirtualComputerName=ACCESS2010 (to check in KMS logs, easier than admin-1435986)

3. Exclude filelist (also tried without this)

[FileList]
ExcludePattern=*.bak,*.msi,*.mst,*.cab,*.msp

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.txt

1. Insert the following at the beginning of the file:

ThinApp Internet Explorer 8 Redirection Issue ThinDirect.txt ThinDirect.adm

$

Hi,

I have a problem with redirection a virtual Internet Explorer 8 back to native Internet Explorer 9 (Windows 7 x64).

I tried the two available methods of deploying ThinDirect.txt (via .txt and GPO), however only the deployment via .txt is able to redirect back to the native browser.

Example:

Virtual IE 8 captured with ThinApp 4.7.3 used in both methods:

Method 1:

Implement ThinDirect.txt in project directory with one url. (http://www.vmware.com)

Build

Redirect from native to virtual -> works!

Redirect from virtual to native, when leaving (http://www.vmware.com) -> works!

Method 2:

Delete ThinDirect.txt from the project directory

Build

Delete sandbox

Redirect from native to virtual -> works!

Redirect from virtual to native, when leaving (http://www.vmware.com) -> virtual browser stays open and is not redirecting back to the native browser.

Since deployment over GPO is much more easier I prefer this deployment method for ThinDirect.txt. e.g. easy editing of additional URLs without rebuilding the whole virtual IE.

Is this a known issue? Has anybody come across this?

Photoshop CS3 Licensing Issue

Hello,

I am trying to virtualize PhotoShop CS3, but I am encountering an issue.

First, I should point out that on this page, I don't really understand the instructions under the notes. I apologize for my lack of understanding, but I was just thrown into this project. I've gone ahead and attempted to create the thinapp without following the notes.

So anyway, I can create the thin app no problem, and I can run it as an admin just fine, but when I run it as a regular user I get the error  "Licensing service has stopped working" (one of the commenters in the page I linked above has the same issue, and another commenter apparently has a solution, but it did not work for me)

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

Packaging SQL 2012 Management Studio

I am attempting to package SQL 2012 Management Studio as a Thinapp. With exceptable performance I would obviously prefer to deliver this app as a streamed application. My first attempt at doing so was not all that successful. When I attempt to launch the streaming app from my VM I get an error that pops up that says invalid license data. Reinstall is required. While I'll admit that this looks like an issue with the capture process I am looking for anyone that can shed some light on the error so I don't do it again.

Capture machine - windows 7 w/ SP1

SQL components installed - Management tools - complete

I have attempted to delete the sandbox and relaunch. (I mention that only because that seems to be the default response that everyone gets when posting).

So first of all, can it be packaged and deployed as a Thinapp? If so, does anyone have a recipe to make it work? Does it work as a streamed app? And does it work well as one?

Any other info that is needed please let me know and I'd be glad to provide it.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I'm new to Thinapp and wanted to know the best way to capture file association. It would be great if there is an article out there.

Basically I want to Thinapp MS Visio Viewer 2010, when i try to do it it does not open the .vsd file in IE it just asks which program i want to use to open the file.

I've had a look on the web but can't find anything good re ThinApp File association and how to do it.

Could someone please help

Internet Explorer and ntdll.dll error

I virtualized the Internet Explorer 8, I used the following instructions VMware KB: Virtualizing Internet Explorer 7 or 8 with ThinApp

The Internet Explorer 8 works on windows 7 without any Problems when the local installed Internet Explorer is Version 9. Now some user

installed the IE10 und then the IE8 starts shortly but then it crashes.

Windows log says

Virtualize IE6 and JInitiator for kVASy

$
0
0

Here is the procedure on virtualization of Internet Explorer 6 and JInitiator 1.3.1.26 concerning the work with kVASy (this might be useful for other applications as well):

1. Start "Prescan" from ThinApp;

2. Install JInitiator 1.3.1.26;

3. Start kVASy and accept all dependencies (certificates, site popups, etc.);

4. From „jdk-1_5_0_22-windows-i586-p.exe“ take jvm.dll and put it into "C:\Program Files\Oracle\JInitiator 1.3.1.26\bin\hotspot" replacing the old jvm.dll file;
5. In C:\Program Files\Oracle\JInitiator 1.3.1.26“ create new folder “Cache”;
6. Go to JInitiator's Settings => tab "Cache", choose "Clear JAR Cache" and change path to "C:\Program Files\Oracle\JInitiator 1.3.1.26\Cache". At the end click on "Apply";

7. Start "Postscan" with option "Include an entry point for a fully virtualized Internet Explorer";

8. In "isolation_full HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main" add the following two rows:

Value=Check_Associations

REG_SZ~No#2300

9. Install JInitiator 1.3.1.26 locally on the machine that you will use kVASy (e.g. Master Image) and follow the steps from 4 to 6;

10. Create a file with name "deployment.config" in "C:\Program Files\Oracle\JInitiator 1.3.1.26\lib" and add this two rows:
deployment.system.config=file\:C\:/Windows/Sun/Java/Deployment/deployment.properties

deployment.system.config.mandatory=false

You can try few configuration (e.g. without "deployment.system.config.mandatory=false" or deployment.system.config.mandatory=true);

11. In "C:\Windows\Sun\Java\Deployment" create a file "deployment.properties" and add: "-Dsun.java2d.noddraw=true".

Now your machine is ready for deploying.

P.S. If you want to use kVASy or other application with JInitiator 1.3.1.26 in IE 8, 9 or 10 the only thing you have to do is to take jvm.dll file from „jdk-1_5_0_22-windows-i586-p.exe“ and put it in "C:\Program Files\Oracle\JInitiator 1.3.1.26\bin\hotspot" and follow steps 10 and 11.

Hi,

I'm trying to Thinapp DotNet 1.1 but can't figure out how to choose a entry point for the application or if i need one at all. These are the options that are presented when I do a Post Scan. If i untick all options then the "Next Button" is greyed out.

I have seen the following article "Step by Step instruction on How to ThinApp MS .Net Framework" http://blogs.vmware.com/thinapp/2008/11/step-by-step-in.html but it doesn't really say what entry point should be used.

ThinDirect - URL redirection from virtual IE8 virtual IE7

Hi,

in a customer we have this situation:

- PC with WinXPSP3 with IE6 or IE7

- Virtual IE7 used for SAP DWH

- Virtual IE8 used for new internal sites

We have configured ThinDirect to redirect a couple of specific URL to the correct browser.

ThinDirect works well starting from native browser but doesn't work starting from Virtual browser.

It's possibile to set the virtual browser so if you type an URL in the virtual IE8 associated to the virtual IE7 thindirect works?

Exception EAccessViolation since 4.6.2

$

We've detected a regression in ThinApp 4.6.2, unfortunately.

Multiple applications are giving an Access Violation error under Windows 7 (32-bit). The error is the following:

Exception EAccessViolation in module <application.exe> at <address>.

Access violation at address <address> in module '<application.exe>'. Read of address <address>.

Attached are 3 sample trace files showing what seems to be an error in ThinApp where it calls FindNextFileW with a malformed argument.

The char array is filled with the name of the .dat file, then partly overwritten by the name of the executable and send (incorrectly) using the size of the name of the .dat file.

Or so it seems.

This occurs in 4.6.2 and 4.7.0, but not in 4.6.1.

Error message while starting Teamviewer (virtualized)

$

Hi,

I'm trying to capture TeamViewer (v5.1.10408). A rather old version but I never upgraded my license for it...

The destination system (where I want to run it) is Windows Server 2012.

After copying the captured package to that OS and starting it up, I always get an error message:

Win title: C:\Program Files (x86)\TeamViewer\TeamViewer.exe

Content:

C:\Program Files (x86)\TeamViewer\TeamViewer.exe

Der angegebene Pfad ist nicht vorhanden.

Überprüfen Sie die Pfadangabe, und wiederholen Sie den Vorgang.

Rough translation:

The specified path does not exist.

Check the path and repeat the operation.

I've attached a screenshot of this message to this post.

It doesn't matter if I try to capture this Application under

Windows XP (x86)

Windows 7 (x86)

or

Windows 7 (x64).

I'll always get the error message on the destination system.

TeamViewer (it's a 32bit application) was installed in

Windows XP: C:\Program files\TeamViewer

Windows 7 (x86): C:\Program files\TeamViewer

Windows 7 (x64): C:\Program files (x86)\TeamViewer

After closing the error message, the application does run but because I start / restart it quite often, the message get's quite annoying.

I didn't change any options in the package.ini file for this project, apart from trying to uncomment the "Wow64=0" entry but this didn't change

anything after recompiling and starting it on the destination system...

Any hints why I get this message and possible ways to circumvent that?

Hello everyone,

I have two IE 8 Thinapps both built seperately with Thinapp 4.7.3-891762 that run fine on Windows XP or Windows 7 with IE 7, 8 or 9 installed natively but both crash if IE 10 is present. Has anyone else seen this behavior?
