I havent used ThinApp yet but I am currently at a descision point with regards application aspects within environments.
Ultimately we will be moving to a VMware Horizon environment but currently there is a requirement to deploy some applications to desktops.
My questions are this:
Can Thinapp deploy to standard Windows Desktops non virtualised
Can thinapp deal with MS Office deployments easily

I am trying to thinapp RS 3.4.3 for a client and i am running into some troubles with a specific folder.
Basically the error is from the program not being able to find C:\ProgramData\Rosetta Stone\Network\.....
Inside that folder is where the program has a database and an XML file that it needs to run. If i copy the native installations %programdata%\Rosetta stone to the test machine it will run fine. If i remove it it comes back with the error. I run the CMD from the bin folder of the project installed on the test machine with no %programdata%\Rosetta on the local machine and can still see the files. So it is in the package. I have tried making the folder full isolation and write copy with no avail.
Have any ideas?

I also tried to run the ThinApp on the same box where it was built. It did not give me any license error. To me, it seems like VMware ThinApp failed to get something from the PostScan, Capture and Build/

We have a group of users that do some online research, their computer are high risk because most of the time they get infected and we have to reimaged them very often or spend time troubleshooting issues.
We though about using VMWare View in order to give them a Virtual Desktop that will use a non-persistent disk so that the changes will not be saved when the computer was rebooted.
We are wondering though if we could make their experience a little better and instead virtualize IE in such a way that they could run it somewhere else (like a VM) and by the end of the day use something like non-persistent disk in order to avoid saving the changes. The goal will be make the this process as few intrusive as possible so something like they click on IE but the browser runs somewher else and the user computer is isolated from the threads...
I am not sure if something like this could be acomplished virtualizing IE with Think App, I would appreciate if someone with experience in this subject could answer this for me.
We have also though of using TS Remote App but I am not sure if we could acomplish want we want either.
Also any other suggestions in order to approach our scenario will be also welcome.

I am trying to ThinApp Skype (oh no!) in Version v6.03.105 on a customers request. It's the 'normal' version, as far as i know there exists no 'business' version any more.
We have linked clones (WIN7 Prof.) in our customers environment, based on VMware View 4.7. ThinApp v4.7 too.
I followed Lakshman's advice for v5.5 (pdf-document).

Application is able to start, but it takes +45 secs (app takes about 60MB of RAM). Even if I activate "start skype at windows startup" in installation progress, the application will not start on first ignition of Windows (I think this is due to the sandbox environment).
In earlier versions of Skype it was possible to regulate the options via a .adm-Template. There is an official "Administrators Guide" for v4.2. I miss these configuration options and couldn't find any working alternatives like reg-keys, install-options etc.
I get a very bad feeling thinking about deploying a Voip-tool that offers definition of ports, wifi-support, buttons for Microsoft Live Login and Facebook for any standard user.

I'm trying to package IE8 and a specific Java version, so a customer can move forward with a new version of IE. I've seen a few good articles and pointers on thinapping IE8, but am running into a few problems when attempting to run IE8 on a Windows 7 machine after capturing it on an Windows XP box. As far as I know, the only supported way of capturing IE8 is on Windows XP, but at this point I might try capturing the Windows feature addition process.
The crash that I'm getting is:
On my clean XP SP3 with .NET 3.5 SP1 capture machine I perform the following:
1. Prescan
2. Install IE8
3. Install Java
4. Test Java
5. Customize Home page
6. Post Scan
7. Select Write/Copy Isolation Mode
8. In Package INI change streaming to 1
9. Build.
Now, I test on a clean Windows XP VM, works great.
Now, I test on a clean Windows 7 box, works great.
Now, I upgrade IE on the Windows 7 box to IE9 or IE10 and I get this crash on launch.
I'm going to keep working on this, but figured I'd post it in case anybody else has encountered this.

If I have a thinapped version of both Office 2003 and Office 2010 streaming to a desktop how does it decide which default version to use? (i.e. when opening a Word document from explorer), so far I have found it will use Office 2010 as default but I have one user which has defaulted to using Office 2003.

I use option:
OptionalAppLinks=Plugins\*.*
So I want make any thinpackage linkable after being placed in Plugins folder.
But since 4.6.1 version any other files (entry points, readme's...) makes main package stop with error, which says that some files are't applink plugins.
Is it a problem to allow users to place some files beside plugin files?

I'm trying to ThinApp eDocPrinter PDF Pro from http://www.pdfprinter.dk and stream it out but no printer appears in Devices and Printers and the only program that comes through to Start\All Programs\eDocPrinter PDF Pro is PDFSealer Batch Commandline. The programs addprn, addprn2, drag2pdf, epdfact and epdfact32 could not be packaged as program entry points. I got errors when packaging until I de-selected these. (see attached file.)
I can install the original edocpdfDan64bit.msi file and all programs appear but not through Thinapp and streaming.

I thinapped an application that includes a drawing component. When the application is launched on a Windows 7 machine and you try to draw a line or any other shape, the application is leaving behind ghost images of the line or shape as you resize it. The problem is only happening in Windows 7. If I open the same application under XP, I do not have the issue.
The application occupies 3 separate monitors at the same time. The problem occurs no matter which screen you are on.
I used Thinapp 4.7.3 to create the virtualized application on a Windows XP base.

I have been attempting to package IE8 with Silverlight and have been running into alot of issues getting it to integrate with a local Office applications.
I've sucessfully packaged the plugin adn the web pages that use silverlight work as expected. I've also created two seperate ThinApp packages, one for just IE8 the other just Silverlight and use App Link to join them. The plugin works within the browser as expected, BUT.
My Issue is when I attempt to click on a MAILTO link. I get the "default mail client is not properly installed." error message.
I get simliar issues when I attempt to access any Office documents in SharePoint.
The odd thing is if I do not include Silverlight in the IE8 package or I remove the Silverlight ThinApp package from my App Link directory those links work correctly.
Any insight into this odd issue?
I have attempted to use the child exception process for Outlook.exe, Winword.exe and excel.exe in the packages and I still have the issue.

I have an client application that is installed in a shared folder on the network.
This application uses an ODBC connection to reach a SQL server.
- I prepare the build VM.
- Prescan
- I create the ODBC connection
- I run a small "local client" installation (basically copies a .ini file to the Windows folder)
- I create a shortcut on the desktop for the application (pointing to the shared folder)
- I run the application, it says it needs to install Crystal Reports runtime, so I let it do so.
- Once installed, I re-run the application and I get to the main menu (it works).
- Postscan (writecopy isolation mode)
After the capture and build, the application starts (i get the splash screen) then dies and a process remains behind (WERFAULT.EXE)
I tried creating a blank build (CMD only) and run the application thru the virtual CMD and same result.
Running log monitor generates nothing that I can decipher 
(lots of "potential errors" but I don't know how to fix them).

I have a Thinapp we have been using in prod that has a script I want to use for another app. I don't have the original project capture folder anymore. Is there some,way to decompile a thinapp to get at the components inside?
I recently thinapped Adobe Acrobat Pro 11
Now when I run it from my VMWare client it runs, when I close the app it does not close the processes in Windows Task manager like Adobe Reader will, eventually the app will just stop running and stall, work around is to delete the Acrobat folder in thinstall.
Anyone know what could be causing the app to stall? I uploaded it to a couple of my pools in VMWare View, after a few hours lots of users unable to open PDF's so had to remove Acrobat.
I was looking the licencing options of Thinapp after i used the Trial, and i ended up with this site. I learned the licence options but i couldnt find, how does VMWare controls how many Thinapp client licences we are using. I dont understand why there is different licencing options and there is nothing to determine this.

a customer is asking me if there is a best practice to size AppSynch http servers.
We have a load balancer in front of two apache server with 4GB of ram and 4 CPU (we asked for 8 GB) but the customer thinks it's not enough.
Customar has 20.000 user that potential could connect to AppSync in the same two hours after a big update (ex. MS Office 2010 200MB of update) and is asking to me and my team how many web server he has to implement.
We are thinking about 4 or 6 have you got any similar experience?
Does VMware ThinApp support session recording?

i am wondering if it was possible to stream an application via Internet by virtualizing it and offering the exe file on a WebDAV directory? Will streaming work via WebDAV protocol or will WebDAV always need a complete download of a file, before windows can access parts of it, even on read only access?
