COM Factory issue in Sage 50 Accounts 2012 ThinApp
Hi everybody,
I have created a Sage 50 Accounts 2012 ThinApp and it is working almost just fine. All the primary functions seem to be operational and it is running in a production environment. Now I've been asked to enable its "Third Party Activation" part which seemed easy enough but I seem to be stuck with a COM activation issue.
I'm testing the factory by running a virtualised powershell with command "New-Object -ComObject SDOEngine.18". The build machine runs the command and returns me the COM factory. However, running the same command on same ThinApp on a clean test machine fails with following error:
To me that feels like there is something that thinapp is not picking up from build machine and hence the activation failure but as far as I can tell, all the registry keys / files are in the right places in the virtual environment (and operational as the application runs fine on its own).
I am using the following virtualisation settings in package.ini
VirtualizeExternalOutOfProcessCOM=0
ChildProcessEnvironmentExceptions=WINWORD.EXE;EXCEL.EXE;POWERPNT.EXE;OUTLOOK.EXE;MOC.EXE
if there is any other information you need, please feel free to ask. I'm a software developer, so technical stuff is not a problem.
Many thanks in advance!

Adobe Flash Builder 4.6 -=- HELP!!!
I have spent sooo many hours trying to virtualize/Tinapp Adobe Flash Builder 4.6 I am losing even more hair!
Problem:
When the thinapp is launched with as a normal user without admin rights it prompts for the volume license, which of course I am not going to give out. However if you launch it “as admin” or launch it with an admin account it launches successfully.
Has anybody run into issues or have any ideas on what I need to do to allow the thinapp to launch without asking for licenses as a standard user? ANY help would be greatly appreciated.
Things I tried:
- Capture on Windows XP SP3
- Capture on Win7 x64 SP1
- Capture as a standard users
- Elevate UAC to RequireAdministator in package.ini (works but a standard user will get UAC prompt)
- Various package.ini shortcut settings
- Use latest Capture tool (4.7.3)
- Capturing on VM’s
Thank you!!!
Kevin
ThinApp IE10 as Entrypoint IE settings problem
Capture performed on Win7 32bit VM on vmWorkstation 9.02.
Modified the snapshot.ini file so it does not exclude the registry keys associated with IE settings.
Confirmed appropriate registry keys by exporting registry, modify IE settings & export again. Then use Beyond Compare 3 to identify what changed.
ThinApp is capturing the settings. However, when I build the package & execute. The settings within IE are wrong & cannot be changed.
Need to set the temporary internet files settings to 250mb & to check every time I visit the webpage.
Virttual IE shows size as 0 & Check Automatically.
If I try to change settings from within virtual IE, I get the following error:
"Please select a value between 8 and 8 for how much disk space Temporary Internet Files may use."
Even if I enter 8, close IE & reopen, still shows 0.
I removed settings from HKCU.txt & set RegistryIsolationMode=Merged in package.ini (force it to use local).
I get the same results.
Old VB 6 application, written for windows 2000
Old VB 6 application, written for windows 2000.
Hi All, I am still new to Thinapp so sorry if I ask any noob questions.
I have an application that was written for Windows 2000, which kind of works in Windows XP (crashes unexpectedly) which the manufactures no longer support.
The application is called ArchivesOne and was written in VB 6.
I have a problem, I have created a basic win2000 machine in Workstation and captured the installation and tested that ArchivesOne works but the final built application crashes with either no errors or just a generic application crash.
Does anybody have any special advice as to how I can trouble shoot this kind of error?
I have tried capturing with windows XP and the same problem occurs.
Just to be clear the captured app crashes on both the original machine and other computers.
My aim is to have this package work in Windows XP and 32 bit Windows 7.
Thanks for your help
Merge tvr file on second launch
I understand that the sandbox should help cache files for the ThinApps. I am noticing that on relaunch of the application, it is reloading the merge virtual registry file. Is there any way to configure and change this behavior? Basically due to the reloading of the merge registry file, there's a bit of a delay in launching the application. Relaunch of the application results in about the same loading time as a fresh new sandbox. Thanks.
ThinApp IE9 Links not working (No native browser and AppLinked)
I have a ThinApp application package that uses internet explorer to display web content in a frame. The production environment does not have any native browser installed. If I pacakge the application without linking IE, it will still bring up the web content within the application, but most of the links do not work. If IE is included in the AppLink section, then all links will work. My preference would be not to AppLink IE, due to the amount of plugins and merge file size (loading time). Any ideas on how come some links will work while others don't? In the IE package.ini file, I have these extensions defined:
FileTypes=.htm.html.mht.mhtml.partial.svg.website.xht.xhtml.url.asp.aspx
IE is available in the environment via streaming and if I open IE on its own, the links work. I might be out of luck here, but I am guess I have to use applink in this situation??
Thanks!
.NET application Confirm not launching on capture machine
Hi guys,
I am at my wit's end with an application called Confirm which uses .NET Framework 4.
When I try and launch a form which uses a Powerbuilder component the packaged version crashes on the capture machine (screenshot attached).
Event Viewer shows the following error:
Activation context generation failed for "C:\Users\jm8jadmin\AppData\Roaming\Thinstall\Confirm\SKEL\1424-1.manifest". Dependent Assembly MapInfo.Confirm.Forms.Com,language="*",processorArchitecture="X86",publicKeyToken="d2de60116a00bbf7",type="win32",version="12.0.6.50583" could not be found. Please use sxstrace.exe for detailed diagnosis.
If I manually copy this DLL to the SKEL folder of the sandbox the error in Event Log goes away, but the crash still occurs, which tells me it might be a red herring.
I have spent quite a lot of time comparing Process Monitor logs from the working local installation, and the packaged version, but nothing obvious is showing.
I have attached the Log Monitor log. There are a number of 'Potential Errors', but I can't for the life of me figure out which one is causing it.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks,
Johnny
ThinApp View Client
Hello all,
I am having a heck of a time trying to thinapp the View Client. My build machine is XP SP2, ThinApp Enterprise-4.7.3-891762, View Client 5.2.1-937772, I have followed various instructions out there how to do it (delete these files, edit the package ini, etc). The process completes successfully, but when I copy it over to a PC (physical or Virtual) the ThinApp'd View Client does not work!!!
I get an error stating "The View Connection Server connection failed. The Proxy Auto-configuration URL was not found." Or I also get some type of handle error (sorry didn't get a chance to copy it down). Now the odd thing is, if I run this ThinApp from a PC that currently has the View Client installed it runs just fine. But on PC's that never had it, it doesn't run.
Anybody out there have success with this?
ThinApp IBM SPSS 19
Does anyone know if IBM SPSS v19 Statistics can be ThinApp'd using the Single-User license as opposed to the Site license? I have uncommented the VirtualComputerName setting in the Package.ini file but the application will not launch on another computer. I am packaging with ThinApp 4.7 - Build 556613 on a clean Windows 7 32-bit VM and trying to launch on a Windows 7 64-bit machine. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
ThinApp IE slow to load pages
SO we have a virtual IE that is strickly for a web application that we have. On the capture machine when when we are captureing it, pages load fine and fast. There are no issues. After its done and we package and deploy for testing on our Windows 7 test enviorment, it is extreamly slow to load pages. The wait time from page to page is almost a full min.
Anyideas on wht I can change to speed the package up? Or am I stuck?
Microsoft Office 2010 - osppsvc doesn't start
Hi,
I've got a problem with Office 2010.
The capture we did works well on most of our and customare system, but there is a particular machine configuration where Office doesn't get licence from KMS. These machines are Win XPSP3 with Office 2003.
I've tried to put a vbs script to let the service osppsvc starts on firstsanboxowner, I've found lot of script over internet, I've used this one:

IE 6 Isolation for ActiveX Controls
I'm having a problem with IE6 (virtualised using TA 4.6.1) and I'm linking Oracle JInitiator 1.3.1.26 for an internal Oracle site we use. I can it to work on WinXP & Win7 vm but when I load it on our GPO managed image it crashes. So I added this line to the HKLM to isolate the GPO site settings:
isolation_full HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings
So that worked at isolating the system Browser GPO's from the virtual IE site zones. But I cannot figure out how to isolate the ActiveX controls which still show up in full when in the virtual IE. I have the Browser Helper objects isolated but I need help.
Basically when I link the JInitiator package with the VirtIE6 package it works on XP & Win7 with no UAC or Aero. When I install it together on our managed Win7 Pc's the only way I can get it to work is via "RunAsAdmin". So I created a shim with DisableThemes & RunAsAdmin (mode, not fix) and it doesn't work.
BTW, how does anybody debug any of this stuff? The ThinApp log monitor is just about useless. I get 2-3 GB txt files that can't be opened and ProcMon, ProcExp & Dependency Walker help but again, there is no clear idicator at how any of this is functioning. I'm about ready to drop any and all virtualization until there is a product out that actually works consistently.
Centricity PM
Has anyone ever sucessfullly virtuallized Centricity PM?
I work in a medical facility and we use Centricity PM as of core software. GE says there is no way to mass deploy that app (Couf, Couf, POS). anyway... i have tried packaging the app and making a MSI but thats a pain in the ass, and it does not work anyway.
This software installs:
.net 1.1
.net 1.1 sp1
then the cps 2006 client.
HELP HELP HELP... i have been fighting this POS for almost a year now and any advice would be great...
I am thinking ThinApp may have meet its match with this software. any consulting, moneotring, are advice would be greatful.
Thanks
Internet Explorer 8 with linked Reader XI doesn't display png images
Hi,
we've got this problems:
When you use applink with IE8 as main process and Acrobat Reader as Plugin, you cannot see .png images on web sites using IE8. See picts below:
Removing Acrobat reader from plugin folder, the .png images are displayed with no problems.
The bug occours both on Win7 and WinXP using an internet explorer 8 and acrobat reader captured on a full clean vm XPSP3 with ThinApp 4.7.3 (I’ve got the captures). Both packages are created with default options with no customization.
Any suggestions?
Microsoft Project 2007 SP3 on Win7 x64
I'm starting to believe that doing anything ThinApp on a 64-bit system is a bad idea. Here is where I am at. I've taken the Microsoft media for Microsoft Office Project Standard 2007 and added the necessary files so that it has SP3. I can install this physically onto a Windows 7 64-bit system w/o any issues or errors.
If I do a setup capture with ThinApp 4.7.3 on Windows 7 64-bit, I normally end up with a virtual application that the first time I run it does nothing. Guessing it just crashes. The second time I launch it I get dialog that Project needs to start in safe mode at which point the application still does not launch.
At first I was capturing on a system that had Office 2007 ProPlus. Thinking this was the issue I rebuilt my capture system so that Office is not installed. Even then, same result.
I've attempted to troubleshoot using the ThinApp Log Monitor, but honestly the tool makes no sense to me. The "potiential error" section has over 100 lines stating that files do not exist yet if I add cmd.exe as an entry point and browse the virtual file system the files do in fact exist. I've tried all of the common package.ini tricks both together and seperate (compressiontype=none, wow64=0, loaddontnetfromsystem=win7) yet still no dice.
At this point I'm really hoping that someone else has been able to capture Project 2007 sucessfully on a Windows 7 64-bit system and can say, "Oh yeah. There is that one isolation setting on that one key that will do the trick." Otherwise physical install of Project 2007 it is.
Thinapp Factory and Horizon Workspace
I have a demo of Horizon Workspace in my lab and so far everything is working. I was trying to integrate Thinapp Factory and Horizon Workspace together but I keep getting an error. I used the guide found on http://blogs.vmware.com/horizontech/2012/12/how-to-make-thinapp-factory-horizon-enabled.html
when I try to validate I get the following error:
Error: Request failed: sun.security.validator.ValidatorException: PKIX path building failed: sun.security.provider.certpath.SunCertPathBuilderException: unable to find valid certification path to requested target.
Again this is just a lab setup so I configured everythng as default I tried importing the pem into my local trusted store which worked (horizon shows as a trusted cert) but it still the validation still does not work. I do not see anything in ThinApp Factory to update root certificates.
Anyone have any suggestions?
Registry keys for Office 2013?
Hi there,
I was able to virtualize and run Office 2013 if no other Office 2013 applications are physically installed on he machine.
As soon as one aplication is installed, the dreaded "setup/fix" scree shows up and the application fails.
This is the same problem we had with Office 2010, that was fixed with 4.7.2 and the "deleted" registry keys. Now I'm missing the ones for Office 2013.
Does anyone knows the Office 2013 "deleted" registry keys I must add?
Thanks.
