Hello,
We have an application that once launched will create a folder within "C:\Program Files (x86)\AppBla". As part of this package is the GUID short for IE to launch "My Documents". When I run this application on a Win7 VM that I have full local admin rights and start that IE-GUID entrypoint, I can see and edit "C:\Program Files (x86)\AppBla". Now if I run this as a normal domain user that does not have local admin rights to Win7VM I do not see "C:\Program Files (x86)\AppBla", that app runs, but I have no idea where the app folder is being created if at all.
Basically I would like to know if anyone know what sort of Voodoo is going on here so that I can provide access to "C:\Program Files (x86)\AppBla" as a normal user.
I did try granting Full Control to C: to all users (domain users as well) as well as creating the "C:\Program Files (x86)\AppBla", then granting Full Control to that folder and then launching the package and still no-go.
any hints?
I'm trying to virtualize JPC-rr (http://tasvideos.org/EmulatorResources/JPC.html), a free Java-based DOS emulator, but I'm always getting path-based errors depending on what I try.
The emulator is started with a batch-file which uses the following syntax:
java -jar emu.jar
While starting it in the VM everything works fine. Doing the same for the virtual app creates a "Unable to access jarfile" Error. I figured the working directory (c:\jpc) is not the same in the sandbox as in the VM, so I modified the batch-file:
pushd C:\jpc
java -jar c:\jpc\emu.jar
This helped start the program, but the emulator errors out with not being able to load other script files, indicating that it operates under a different path than it is actually stored in.
Moving the portable exe to c:\jpc actually helped getting past some of the error, but ultimately the emulator errors out with the following error messages:

I'm using a clean XP x86 VM with Thinapp 4.7.3-891762.
I tried using Java 6 update 38 JDK and JRE. Both fail the same way. After wasting a day, I gave the latest portable Java 7 version of portableappz.com a try, but it threw the same error as above. I followed both suggestions for how to virtualize older and newer Java apps:
Step by Step Instructions on How to ThinApp Newer Java Versions | VMware ThinApp Blog - VMware Blogs
Both didn't help. I also created a debug entry point to the command line to see if I could make the emulator boot up properly manually, but wasn't lucky. I also created an entry point to java.exe and tried to access it with a non-virtualized version of the emulator, but received the same error as above. Is there any registry key or environment variable I can set or add manually to fix this issue? I'm pretty sure this is a simple path problem. Thanks in advance!
Has anyone successfully ThinApp'd Soarian? It's a Siemens medical EMR package.
Hi
Where isthe latest version ofThinAppcompatible withWorkstation10.x?
Thanks

Good day to all.
I have a dilemma here.
I tried to get MS to convert my 15 retail licenses of Office 2003 Pro, but they said no I have to buy the latest version as a VLK.
My users, especially management do not like the new office, they love their 2003.
Also, we have no problem with 2003, only the occasional document that gets sent to us as a new file format, either it being 2010 or 2013.
I would like my users to use Office 2003 as a thinapp.
How can I convert those 15 retail licenses as a single VLK?
Or can I create insall Offcie 2003 on a new Win 7 VM, and then activate it and make sure it activates and run it's updates and then finalize the thinapp creation.
Then can I take that thinapp and edit it by changing the license key to another one of my 15 keys and thin finish editing/finalizing the thinapp to be created with the other license key on it?
And keep doing this for the rest of the license keys?
Finally, I can then assign one of those thinapps to a specific user.
There has to be a solution for this, is there a way deduplicate the thinapps as well?
We are currently attempting to thinapp HP ALM (Application Lifecycle Management) version 11. we are running into problems once the package is created of it failing once the package is built HP has been no help as they say "we have never heard of virtualizing our application". the application is a plugin to IE an when it loads fails when loading one of the many dlls. We don't get a real error, just an error has occurred retry or check online.
So my organization is getting ready to start thinapping some apps for a proof of concept. Is it recommended to do the packaging in a local VM using VMware Workstation or can it be done using VMs running in a vSphere environment? Doing it on a local VM will definitely be more user friendly since you can drag and drop the installers from the host OS. Doing it through vSphere would require me to download the applications from the internet. Would this make the VM less clean then? Also, should VMware tools be installed when thinapping?
Hi,
I have the following problem. I have a ThinApped Delphi based application. I launch the thinapp on a Windows 7 64bit OS. In Package.ini the Sandboxpath is defined in the following manner:
Sandboxpath=%Thinapp_path%, meaning that the sandbox path is derived via environment variable already created on the client OS.
The environment variable on the server looks like this: SET Thinapp_path=e:\thinapp_sandbox. E: drive is mapped via logon script.
So far, so good - nothing unexpected but I noticed that one and the same package is working OK for one set of users, while for another set of users the application was crashing with error Event ID 1000 in the application event log. After some investigation I found out that the users for which the application was running OK have a shorter server name (respectively) FQDN. The longest working FQDN length under which E: drive was mapped was 26 characters long (e.g. SRVNAMEF001.xxx.nsroot.net). For users that had longer server/name FQDN (e.g. SRVNAMEF001LM.xxx.nsroot.net) - 28 characters long the application was crashing on start up with windows message "Application has stopped working" and even id 1000 logged in Event viewer. Also after that application is throwing an error of type "EAccess Violation....". I'm 99.9% sure that the length of the mapped drive (E:) where the sandbox is stored is causing the issue. I've tried mapping different various servers with FQDN length less than 26 characters and it was working for all of them. By try and error I found out that the border is either 27 or 28 chracters of FQDN length.
When I change the environment variable to C:\temp for example everything is working fine.
Does anyone have an idea what is happening?
I have an application that only runs on Windows 7, it need .Net 4.5. My client wont have Windows 7 deployed for quite a few months yet and require this app to be deployed to there XP SOE.
I have captured .Net 4.5 and C++ 2010 in the same capture and it works as expected on Windows 7 but when run on XP I get the error: This is not a valid win32 application.
Has anyone every captured on Windows 7 and run the virtual app on XP? Is it possible to do with ThinApp?
Any help would be really appreciated.
Hello,
i am using thinapped MS Office 2010 (outlook 2010) on Windows 7 VDI's linked clones. Everything is working fine. I want to run script that copy one folder
(and files in this folder) to different location. I have preconfigured outlook signatures in one folder. I am using this script:
set source=C:\outlooksignatures
set destination=C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Thinstall\MS_Outlook_2010\%AppData%\Microsoft\Signatures
xcopy %source% %destination% /y
If i type this script using cmd it shows me: invalid path 0 file(s) copied.
How can i copy "C:\outlooksignatures" folder? I can not get inside ....\Microsoft\Signatures folder then i try to copy C:\Users\
%username%\AppData\Roaming\Thinstall\MS_Outlook_2010\%AppData%\Microsoft\Signatures If i just go just step by step clicking C:\ then
users... etc. i can get inside this folder ...\%AppData%\Microsoft\Signatures, but then i try to go directly through explorer to this
folder just copy/paste all path at one time i can not get inside. It shows address bar error message: windows cannot find 'C:\Users
\someusername\AppData\Roaming\Thinstall\MS_Outlook_2010\C:\Users\someusername\Appdata\Ro...\Signatures I can see that there is some
kind of problem in this folder syntaxis (marked in bold). Then copy/paste all adress at one time %AppData% messes everything. But i don't know how to get directly to lowest
folder, not just by clicking folders inside step by step.
Hello,
I am trying to capture with ThinApp 4.7.3 an application named Hummingbird Exceed 2008 (PC X Server) that has some tools. Most of these tools work fine, but there are several that don´t work. Two of them are an entry point that link with a MSC file.
By using the native application (before capture), the tool works. But once the app has been captured, when I execute the exe file related to the tool, I get this error:
My package.ini file contains this information:
If anyone knows something about this problem, it would be helpful.
Thanks in advance!
hi,
currently I am working on a project which uses the VMware thinapp 4.7.3. As I am very new to this technology so I am not very much aware of the limitations of thinapp.
I have tried doing thinapp for MSDN 9.0 the .dat size is 2.3 with compression. I have seen in one of the discussion on the communities that the .dat file of more than 2 GB size does not support. I am able to install the application MSI with full UI on Win 7 64 bit OS. but it is not working with /qb! command throws the error "The system cannot open the device or file specified". I have also tried giving "MSIStreaming=0" in package.ini but it didn't work. Is there any workaround for this issue?
Hi there,
Has anybody tried to package the Microsoft Office 2013?
Best regards
Hi,
for a large customer here in italy, we have deployed a ThinApp version of Google Chrome 20. Now customer asks us to update that version to the new Google Chrome 30.
Old version (20) works fine both on Windows XP and Windows 7, but the new version (30) works only on Windows XP.
I tried thinapped version of Google Chrome 30 on customer environment and on my virtual machines and PCs running both 32 and 64 bit version of windows 7 and in any case it dosen't works.
The capture environment is still the same:
Windows XP SP3 Clean
ThinApp 4.7.3
Google Chrome alternative installer (Full Installer - All users)
Also the parameters in package.ini are the same.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Hello All
I am looking for a detailed comparison of application virtualization products. Does anyone have a reference to a comparison of thinapp vs citrix vs app-v and/or others? Any assistance would be appreciated!
Thanks
Before I do an update of my environment I wanted to see if anyone else has tried this yet and if they have had any issues. This new version is supposed to correct some things that were lacking in the last build but I get squeamish upgrading to new stuff within days of release!
After thinapping the Acrobat pro10 i have deployed the package (MSI) to end point (laptop)but cannot open word file for printing to PDF. File format does not exist.
is any one know anything i have missed while packaging.
Thanks in advance
We've recently setup a brand new VDI environment using VMware View 5.2 and ThinApp 5.0. We were advised to install the Flash(for other browsers) and Shockwave applications directly into our base image but when running either Firefox (25) or Chrome (31) they seem to have issues when trying to access flash content, whilst Firefox eventually redirects the content it orignally complains about not having the flash plugin. Chrome just shows it's lacking the plugin for shockwave/flash and displays a yellow bar saying it's unable to run.
Should we package the flash and shockwave applications along with the browsers or is installing them in the base image the correct way to manage these?
Hi All,
After a few months of browsing, I am finally posting something because I need help! If I can get this problem solved, I plan on publishing a new recipe here to the discussion boards to benefit those who are running into the very same problem.
I have done *tons* of searching on this topic; add command-line attributes to the Package.ini file; use the /32 switch for MMC...none of which are working for me:
- ThinApp version 5.0.0-1391583
- Windows 7 SP1 x86 (clean install, joined to domain, using admin account to package apps)
After installing RSAT to my VM, when attempting to start AD Users and Computers, I get this error message:
"MMC cannot open the file C:\Windows\system32\dsa.msc
This may be because the file does not exist, is not an MMC console, or was created by a later version of MMC. This may also be because you do not have sufficient access rights to the file"
My ThinApp and target VMs are both running the exact same Windows 7 SP1 x86 build, so I know it's not a platform issue (and people have done this before me, so....)
For what it's worth, Active Directory Administrative Center works fine, so does the PowerShell snap in.
AD Domains and Trusts, AD Sites and Services, AD Users and Computers, Certification Authority, DFS, DNS, File Server Resource Manager, and Group Policy Management all exhibit this error.
